“President Tinubu Is Not Playing”: Nigerians and Experts React to CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele’s Suspension

Godwin Emefiele has not only lost his post as governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria but he has also been detained by the Department of State Security. This comes only a few weeks after President Bola Tinubu met with him and NNPCL CEO Mele Kyari at Aso Rock. Nigerians have gone to social media to voice their feelings over Emefiele’s suspension and the first few days of Tinubu’s administration.

The suspension of Godwin Emefiele, the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), has triggered a flurry of emotions and conversations on social media among Nigerians. President Bola Tinubu announced his suspension on Friday, June 9, 2023, through the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

Furthermore, rumours indicate that Emefiele has been detained by the Department of State Services (DSS), while some believe he is under house arrest.
