Donald Trump Calls For Joe Biden To Resign As The Taliban Takes Over Afghanistan

Donald Trump has called on Joe Biden to resign ‘in disgrace’ as the Taliban takes over Afghanistan.

The militant group has launched an insurrection over the past few days and has taken over large swathes of the country.

They landed in Kabul over the weekend and eventually seized control of the Presidential Palace as Afghanistan’s President, Ashraf Ghani, fled to avoid ‘bloodshed’.

Conversations are underway for a ‘peaceful’ transfer of power and the movement has caused thousands of people to rush to the airport or to the Pakistani border to escape.

The US and other international allies have been slowly pulling their militaries out of the region as they wind down the decades-long war.

However, Mr Trump has accused Joe Biden of allowing the Taliban to come back because he reduced America’s presence in the Middle East.

“It shouldn’t be a big deal, because he wasn’t elected legitimately in the first place!”

In another statement, Mr Trump said Joe Biden has been very ‘wrong’ on foreign policy since he became US President at the start of this year.

“Everyone knew he couldn’t handle the pressure. Even Obama’s Secretary of Defense, Robert Gates, said as much,” the statement said.

“He ran out of Afghanistan instead of following the plan our Administration left for him-a plan that protected our people and our property, and ensured the Taliban would never dream of taking our Embassy or providing a base for new attacks against America.

“The withdrawal would be guided by facts on the ground.”

But Joe Biden has hit back at the criticism of the US pulling out of Afghanistan and said it was time to go and let Afghanistan fight their own battles.

They had largely pulled out of Afghanistan except for troops who were training Afghan forces and all forces were meant to have left by the end of September. However Joe Biden has deployed 1,000 more soldiers to help now that the Taliban have arrived.

“When I came to office, I inherited a deal cut by my predecessor – which he invited the Taliban to discuss at Camp David on the eve of 9/11 of 2019 – that left the Taliban in the strongest position militarily since 2001,” Biden said in a statement Saturday (August 14).

“I was the fourth president to preside over an American troop presence in Afghanistan – two Republicans, two Democrats. I would not, and will not, pass this war onto a fifth.”
