Jordan Torunarigha, a former German junior national team center-back, has opted to swap allegiances and play for the Nigerian national team.

Torunarigha has previously represented Germany at all young levels and was even named to their Olympic squad for the 2021 Games.

Torunarigha rejected refused the option to wear Nigeria’s green and white jersey in May 2018.

Gernot Rohr, the Super Eagles manager at the time, was anxious to obtain Torunarigha’s services for the three-time African champions.

Torunarigha admitted recently that one of the reasons he spurned the Super Eagles was that he had never visited Nigeria and knew nothing about its people.

Fast forward to now, and Torunarigha has changed his mind.

If all goes as planned, Torunarigha, whose father is a former Nigerian international, will join Coach Jose Peseiro’s team for the September international matches.

“I have given it a lot of thought,” revealed Torunarigha, as per Ran. “My father has already played for the Nigerian national team, so I’m really happy that I can follow in his footsteps now.” His eyes are firmly set on the ultimate prize, as he added, “My goal is to be part of the Nigerian team at the 2026 World Cup.”

Torunarigha’s football career began with Hertha BSC’s youth department, where he refined his abilities before moving through the levels of German junior teams, beginning at the U16 level.

Torunarigha is now playing for KAA Gent, a Belgian first-division team where he won the Belgian Cup last year.
Torunarigha has the ability and drives to become a vital component in the Super Eagles’ quest for glory.
