Manchester City is set to make a €110 million bid for Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong, according to Spanish publication Fichajes.

The Premier League champions are willing to pay €110 million to acquire the 26-year-old midfielder from Barcelona, after missing out on Jude Bellingham and Declan Rice.

De Jong, a crucial player for Barcelona, has played 183 times for the club and has made over 50 appearances for the Netherlands. However, his future at Barcelona remains uncertain due to the club’s ongoing financial difficulties.

Manchester City is attempting to strengthen their midfield this summer, as they have lost Ilkay Gundogan to a Bosman transfer and Bernardo Silva’s future at the Etihad.

They were also interested in signing Jude Bellingham and Declan Rice for the 2023/24 season, but Bellingham has signed Real Madrid and Rice is close to joining Arsenal. As a potential alternative to Bellingham and Rice, Manchester City is prepared to pay €110 million to retain the Dutchman.

However, it is uncertain when de Jong will be ready to leave Barcelona, as he has stated that he is pleased and comfortable at Camp Nou. Manchester City may struggle to entice the Dutch international to join them this summer.
