Manchester United are contemplating a £45 million bid for Everton custodian Jordan Pickford, according to the Daily Star.

The Red Devils have been in talks with De Gea about a new contract, but have yet to persuade him to remain through June.

The Spaniard is now paid £375,000 per week and has refused to accept a pay cut of £200,000 to sign a new deal with United.

During this time, it has been rumoured that United are planning an approach for Pickford, who might leave Everton due to financial difficulties.

Pickford signed a new long-term contract in February, although he may be moved for about £45 million during the current transfer window.

With Champions League football, Manchester United has an advantage over Tottenham Hotspur. They could quadruple his weekly salary of £100,000 if they wanted to.

Pickford won’t be an upgrade on De Gea

The England international has been an unquestioned starter for Everton, but in our opinion, he will not be an upgrade over De Gea next season.

The 29-year-old enjoys breaking the fourth wall but has not been convincing. Last season, he made two mistakes that resulted in goals and one penalty.

Pickford has excelled with roughly eight long balls each game on average, but his overall distribution has been awful. Last semester, he only completed 52% of his passes.

As a result, United should hunt for a better transfer alternative. Andre Onana of Inter Milan would be a wonderful match, and he may be available for less than Pickford.

The Cameroonian sensation is willing to leave the Nerazzurri for United. Given his four years at Ajax under manager Erik ten Hag, he should adapt very quickly.
