Brentford won the Premier League Cup after beating Blackburn Rovers 2-1 in the showpiece on Tuesday evening at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Daniel Oyegoke, who is in contention to represent the Young Lions at the upcoming FIFA U20 World Cup, was joined in Brentford’s starting lineup by two other players of Nigerian descent in the shape of Val Adedokun and Michael Olakigbe.

In a 3-4-3 formation, Oyegoke was deployed as a central defender, Adedokun was in the middle of the park and Olakigbe led the line.

Former Manchester United schoolboy of Nigerian descent, Leo Duru started and was in action for 45 minutes for Blackburn Rovers.

Olakigbe had the first real chance of the game in the 11th minute when he curled a shot past the goalpost.

Ryan Trevitt slotted into the bottom corner to break the deadlock in the 32nd minute after a low driven corner by Gilbert and Young-Coombes made it 2-0 at minute 42, firing Trevitt’s cutback in off the bar.

Zak Gilsenan pulled one back for Blackburn Rovers in the 87th minute when he slotted home from close range after a header wasn’t dealt with, but by then it was too late for the visitors to find an equalizer.

Oyegoke, Adedokun, and Olakigbe all went the distance for the Bees.
