As a United Nigeria Airlines (UNA) plane slid off the runway at Lagos’ Murtala Muhammed Airport II (MMA2) yesterday, a large number of passengers panicked.

The incident occurred when the 50-seater plane was flying in from the Abakaliki Airport in Ebonyi State.

Achilleus-Chud Uchegbu, the airline’s head of corporate communications, acknowledged the event and said that during the final stages of landing, the aircraft skidded off runway 18L.

According to Uchegbu, “United Nigeria wants to reassure the public that it upholds the tightest safety standards in its operations and will always prioritize passenger safety.”

Engineers from UNA and representatives of the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) arrived quickly at the location of the mishap and made plans to relocate the aircraft to the hangar.

The airline claims that the National Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) and the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) have also been notified for an investigation.
