Bayern Munich sees parallels between the transfer sagas of Harry Kane and Robert Lewandowski.

fresh summer transfer window, fresh twists and turns in the striker dilemma. Bayern Munich executives, on the other hand, hope to come out on top — and on the receiving end of a world-class superstar.

What do you think about such parallels? Let’s go back almost a year, when Robert Lewandowski, who had long indicated a desire to play in Spain, made headlines by dismissing discussion of a contract extension at Bayern Munich. Enter FC Barcelona, a heated media battle, and, when the dust settled, a €50M deal that left the Bavarians without a top striker for most of the next season.

But, although Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy is directing his ire at Bayern Munich, who appear to have turned Kane’s mind, the parallels end there. Lewandowski campaigned for a transfer, enraging the Bayern Munich faithful. After spending eight years in Germany and winning everything, including the Champions League, the Polish striker expressed a desire for a fresh challenge and even expressed a loss of drive if he was to stay.

Kane has demonstrated no such desire. Despite a dramatic near-exit interview in 2021 in which the English captain attempted to push his way out to Manchester City, Kane eventually returned to his childhood club without complaint. And, in addition to prizes, he is rumoured to desire to break scoring records – something that can only be done in England. His intention to return to England before it’s all done has already been reported.

So, will Bayern be able to pull this off? Perhaps, but the front staff may need to rely on more than similarities and the possibility of an expiring contract to compel Daniel Levy’s hand.
