Unknown gunmen kill an influential monarch, causing chaos in the Southeast.

Aboh Mbaise, Imo – The inhabitants of the Nguru village in Imo State’s Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area have been tense since the death of their traditional ruler, Eze James Nnamdi, who was shot dead by unknown assailants.

According to The Punch, the king was assassinated inside his palace following a successful raid by suspected shooters.

According to the details of the terrible occurrence, the king was attending to a guest (Chief Ignatius Nwaru) at his palace when unknown shooters burst in and assassinated him.

This occurrence was said to have generated terror among village people, while some palace occupants fled for safety.

According to eyewitness accounts and a community source who requested anonymity, the event occurred at 3 p.m.

The source said; “The traditional ruler of Nguru in Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area was around 3 pm shot dead. The traditional who is popularly known as Eze Mmirioma was killed in his palace. This is so terrifying.”

The insider reportedly said that the monarch’s visitor was a victim of the incident but was transported to an unnamed hospital for treatment. Imo State Police Command spokesperson Henry Okoye responded to the tragedy by saying that the Commissioner of Police, Muhammed Berde, has ordered an inquiry into the murder.

He said: “The Commissioner of Police, Imo state, CP Mohammed Barde has condemned in totality the gruesome murder of Eze Mmirioma, a traditional ruler in Aboh Mbaise, who died while receiving treatment in the hospital after being shot severally in his house today by gunmen.”

“He (CP Barde) has set up a high-powered investigating team to investigate this case and ensure that the perpetrators of this dastardly act are arrested and made to face the full wrath of the law.”
