In the coming weeks, dozens of Leopard tanks will arrive in Ukraine: German Defence Minister
According to German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, dozens more Leopard 1A5 tanks will be delivered to Ukraine in the coming weeks.
‘‘In the coming weeks, dozens of Leopard 1 A5 main battle tanks from Germany and Denmark will be handed over to Ukraine,‘‘ Pistorius explained in an interview with Polish newspaper Rzeczpospolita.
According to a joint statement issued in the same month, Germany, Denmark, and the Netherlands have pledged to finance the repair of at least 100 Leopard 1 tanks for transfer to Ukraine from industrial inventories.

This follows Moscow`s claim that it destroyed at least a dozen Kiev tanks, as Ukraine sent Germany additional Leopard 2 tanks to bolster its ground forces in a counteroffensive against Russian forces in June.
The Leopard 1 is a main battle tank developed in response to a perceived need for a tank that prioritizes mobility and firepower over heavy armor.
By comparison, the Leopard 2 is a more modern and sophisticated main battle tank, surpassing the Leopard 1.
Although the Leopard 2 continued to focus on firepower and mobility, it also had significantly improved armor protection, which was the main criticism of the Leopard 1.
