After meeting Wizkid, I knew I’d be successful – Joeboy

Joeboy believes that after meeting Wizkid, he knew he would be a successful artist.

Joeboy recalls meeting Wizkid for the first time in 2018 during a podcast interview.

He believes Wizkid has inspired young people to believe in their own abilities.

Meeting the Grammy-winning musician gave the vocalist the confidence he needed to “go all in.”

“I said that the day I see Wizkid, I’ll know for sure that I’m going to be successful,” Joeboy remarked.

“I was with Mr Eazi in 2018, and I followed him to a show.” I was constantly behind him, typically in his shadow, watching at the time. So I took a seat in a corner while Eazi spoke with Wizkid.

“Wizkid then looked at me and told me to come over.” I turned around, believing he was speaking to someone else. Wizkid approached me, and that’s when I decided to go all in. That was the indication I needed, and that was the end of it.

“One thing I admire about Wiz is that he made young people believe that they could be young and pop.” I may be young and yet be one of the best.

“Before Wiz, if any artiste popped up, it was probably at a much later stage in life.” However, after Wiz, young people began to arrive. Young people began to work hard. Wizkid deserves a special mention for this.”

Joeboy, born Joseph Akinwale, rose to prominence through Empawa Africa, Mr Eazi’s record company.

He was named ‘Best Artiste in African Pop’ at the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) in 2019.

In addition, the singer won the ‘Best Pop’ category at the Soundcity MVP Awards Festival in 2020.
