“I hereby reiterate this administration’s unwavering support to NDLEA for the sustenance of drug control efforts in the country and…efforts to keep the country safe.”

President Bola Tinubu has called for “redoubled efforts” to tackle drug misuse and trafficking in Nigeria, pledging his support to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

“I hereby reiterate this administration’s unwavering support to NDLEA for the sustenance of drug control efforts in the country and their patriotic efforts to keep the country safe,” President Tinubu said.

He stated, “I recommend that everyone should redouble efforts to combat drug abuse and trafficking in the country. We appreciate and acknowledge our local and international partners, especially the United Nations Office of Drugs and Crime.”

Mr Tinubu made the plea on Monday at the 2023 UN International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Drug Trafficking, which was hosted in Abuja and was represented by George Akume, the federation’s secretary to the government.

The president’s position on drug usage and trafficking in Nigeria comes as criticism persists about his involvement in a drug trafficking-related case in the United States in the 1990s.
