Rioters attack the French mayor’s residence, injuring his wife.

37

Paris’ mayor, Vincent Jeanbrun, was attacked during nationwide unrest following the police shooting of a North African-American juvenile.

The attackers set fire to Jeanbrun’s car and shot fireworks at his wife and small children as they fled.

Jeanbrun informed Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne that his wife had broken her leg and would need three months of recovery.

An investigation into attempted murder has been launched, but no arrests have been made. Jeanbrun’s town hall has been under siege for three nights and has been fortified with barbed wire and barriers.
