5 Steps to Marriage

Marriage is not something that you rush into, it is a sacred union that deserves respect and honour.

1. Have your own house
Matthew 19:5
[5]And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh?

Will the man leave his parents house to cleave to his wife at her parent’s house?

Genesis 30:25-27
[25]And it came to pass, when Rachel had born Joseph, that Jacob said unto Laban, Send me away, that I may go unto mine own place, and to my country.
[26]Give me my wives and my children, for whom I have served thee, and let me go: for thou knowest my service which I have done thee.

Even our father Jacob also understood that he can’t get his honour while living under the roof of his in-law.

Genesis 31:4-7

2. Get a job

2 Thessalonians 3:8,10
[8]Neither did we eat any man’s bread for nought; but wrought with labour and travail night and day, that we might not be chargeable to any of you:
[10]For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat.

We ought to have a job so we can sustain and help each other in the Marriage.

3. Abstain from fornication

Leviticus 19:29
[29]Do not prostitute thy daughter, to cause her to be a whore; lest the land fall to whoredom, and the land become full of wickedness.

We ought to wait till marriage before we have sex because…

1 Corinthians 7:2
[2]Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband.

4. Prove a friend.

1 John 4:1
[1]Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God:because many false prophets are gone out into the world.

Don’t just believe anyone who come to you to profess sweet things…

Ecclesiasticus 6:7-9
[7]If thou wouldest get a friend, prove him first and be not hasty to credit him.
[8]For some man is a friend for his own occasion, and will not abide in the day of thy trouble.
[9]And there is a friend, who being turned to enmity, and strife will discover thy reproach.

Also, don’t let the woman lure you into sin as well…

Ecclesiasticus 25:19,21
[19]All wickedness is but little to the wickedness of a woman: let the portion of a sinner fall upon her.
[21]Stumble not at the beauty of a woman, and desire her not for pleasure.

Majority might try to be nice because of what they want to get from you, to take advantage of you.

5. Seek parental approval.

Tobit 7:12-14

Because if any man try to take advantage of a lady to have sex with her without getting her parent’s approval, then he’s not doing as the scriptures says…

Exodus 22:16-17
[16]And if a man entice a maid that is not betrothed, and lie with her, he shall surely endow her to be his wife.
[17]If her father utterly refuse to give her unto him, he shall pay money according to the dowry of virgins.
